Character Frequency: Irish (Gaeilge)

Below you can see a table showing the frequencies of letters, as they occur in the Irish language. This list was created with the Unicode Counter, which is integrated in the WordCreator. Basis of this list were some Irish texts with together 2.079.887 characters (374.555 words), 1.633.489 characters were used for the counting. The texts consist of a good mix of different literary genres. Of course, if other texts were used as a basis, the result would be slightly different.

The left list is sorted according to the letters, the right list in accordance with the frequency of the letters. Accordingly, the letters A, I and H are the most common letters in the Irish language.

The Irish Alphabet consits of 23 characters. These letters are differentiated in 5 short vowels (A, E, I, O and U), 5 long vowels (Á, É. Í, Ó and Ú) and 13 consonants. The consonants J, K, Q, V, W, X, Y and Z from the latin alphabet are only used in foreign and loan words.
