Letter Frequencies of the language Italian

Below you can see a table showing the frequencies of letters, as they occur in the Italian language. This list was created with the character counter, which is integrated in the WordCreator. Basis of this list was a Italian text with 2,079,288 characters (344,048 words), 1,641,351 characters were used for the counting. The text consists of a good mix of different literary genres. Of course, if another text was used as a basis, the result would be slightly different.

The first list is sorted alphabetically according to the letters, the second list by the frequencies of the letters. Accordingly, the letters E, A and I are the most frequent letters in the Italian language.

The Italian Alphabet

Here you can see all letters that occur in the Italian alphabet. The headings of each column are showing all basic letters of the Latin alphabet in bold. In the first row of the table, there are the letters from the Latin alphabet, which are also used in Italian. Underneath, all in Italian occurring forms derived from the basic Latin letters are listed.

The Italian alphabet knows 27 letters. It contains of 21 basic letters of the Latin alphabet (all letters except J, K, W, X and Y) and is supplemented by the 6 letters À, É, È, Ì, Ò and Ù.

The letters J, K, W, X and Y are normally not considered as part of the Italian alphabet, since these letters only appear in foreign words or proper names (for example taxi, jeans, whiskey or Bajardo). In addition, in Italian, the vowels are sometimes used with an accent (À, È, É, Ì, Ò and Ù).
