Below you can see a table showing the frequencies of letters, as they occur in the Italian language. This list was created with the character counter, which is integrated in the WordCreator. Basis of this list was an Italian text with 2.079.288 characters (344.048 words), 1.641.351 characters was used for the counting. The text consists of a good mix of different literary genres. Of course, if another text was used as a basis, the result would be slightly different.

The left list is sorted according to the letters, the right list in accordance with the frequency of the letters. Accordingly, the letters E, A and I are the most common letters in the Italian language.

The Italian alphabet consists of 21 basic letters from the Latin Alphabet. The letters J, K, W, X and Y usually are not considered as part of the Italian Alphabet because those letters are only used in loan word, foreign words or proper names (for example taxi, jeans, whisky or bajardo). Additionally, in Italian, the vocals are sometimes also used with accents (À, È, É, Ì, Ò and Ù).
