Character Frequency: Vietnamese (Việt)

Below you can see a table showing the frequencies of letters, as they occur in the Vietnamese language. This list was created with the Unicode Counter, which is integrated in the WordCreator. Basis of this list were some Vietnamese texts with together 1.649.178 characters (365.324 words), 1.228.528 characters were used for the counting. The texts consist of a good mix of different literary genres. Of course, if other texts were used as a basis, the result would be slightly different.

The list may only be used together with the publishing of the internet adress stefantrost.de and the prior consent of Stefan Trost (contact).

The left list is sorted according to the letters, the right list in accordance with the frequency of the letters. Accordingly, the letters N, H and C are the most common letters in the Vietnamese language. Vowels also appear often in this language, but becaue of the high amount of different variants (diacritics), they could not reach the top of the frequency table.

The Vietnamese Alphabet

In this table you can see all letters which are used in the Vietnamese alphabet. The headers of the columns show the basic letters from the Latin Alphabet. Thereunder you can see the letters from the Latin Alphabet which can be found in the Vietnamese alphabet. Under this, you can see all letters derived from the basic Latin Alphabet.

The Vietnamese alphabet (called Chữ Quốc Ngữ - Script of the National Language) knows all of the basic letters from the Latin alphabet. It is based on the Portuguese version of the Latin alphabet. Written Vietnamese can easily be identified because of the high amount of diacritical characters (often two on the same letter). These diacritics are only listed in the frequency table, so that the alphabet table is more clearly arranged.
