On this page, you can find the history of changes made to the program PasswordGenerator.

New Language (2026-09-06): Tiếng Việt (Vietnamese) in the versions for Windows, Linux and macOS.
Language Settings (2026-03-13): Display of the language in the current application language as a mouseover over the language name in the national language.
New Parameter (2026-03-11): With the new parameter "u=1" for the script control, the character classes defined by "cu", "cl", "cd" as well as "cs" are interpreted as Unicode codepoints.
Improved Handling of Multi-Screen High DPI Environments (2025-09-09): Improved handling (saving, loading and positioning) of window size settings (window size and position) on systems with multiple high-DPI monitors of different sizes and resolutions.
Improved Handling of invalid Window Size Settings (2025-09-03): When loading window size settings, now a check is made to see whether the stored window position and window size settings match the current screen size. This prevents the window from being positioned outside the visible area when loading the settings, for example if the settings were saved on a larger screen than the current one.
RTL Layout Adjustments (2025-08-28): Improvements of the graphical user interface of the settings dialog for right-to-left languages.
New Parameters (2025-07-19): For the control of the PasswordGenerator via scripts or the command line, now the three new parameters "o=1" (only once - use each character only once), "es=1" (exclude similar - exclude similar-looking characters such as O, 0, 1, I or l) as well as "ri=1" (reduce identical - reduce the probability of two identical characters in succession) can be used.
New Parameters for Character Class Definitions (2025-07-17): With the new parameters "cl=x" (characters lowercase), "cu=x" (characters upper case), "cd=x" (characters digits) as well as "cs=x" (characters special) for the script control of the password generator, arbitrary characters can be defined for each character class and thus overwrite the default settings.
New Parameters for the minimum Number of Characters (2025-07-16): With the new parameters "ml=x" (min lowercase letters), "mu=x" (min uppercase letters), "md=x" (min digits) as well as "ms=x" (min special characters) for the script control of the password generator, a minimum number of desired characters from each character class can be individually specified via "x". These parameters can be combined with the parameter "m=x" (minimum number from each character class).
Warning if no Password can be created (2025-07-15): If with your current settings a password cannot be generated, a warning message will now be displayed (for example because settings conflict, no characters were selected, more characters from a character class are to be used than the final password is long or similar). Previously, in this case, the problematic settings were ignored without notice.
New Parameter for the minimum Number of Characters (2025-07-14): With the new parameter "m=x" for controlling the password generator via scripts or the command line, a minimum number of characters from each character class that should be used for the password can be specified using "x". With this change, the parameter "a" (at least one character per character class) has been downgraded to "deprecated", but "a=1" can still be used for the time being.
Individual Splash Screen (2025-07-12): The tab "System Integration" of the Settings Dialog (Settings > System Integration) now contains an option to enable and disable the splash screen that appears at program startup.
Minimum Number of Characters per selected Character Class (2025-06-23): In the settings you can now define a minimum number of characters that must be used from each character class when generating a password. The options available are "Arbitrarily" (there are no specifications), "At least one character from each character class", "At least two characters from each character class" and "Custom". If you choose the "Custom" option, you can assign individual values for uppercase letters, lowercase letters, digits and special characters and thus you can freely determine which character classes and how many of them your password should be composed of.
New Option (2025-06-21): At least two characters from each character class.
New Option for the Android App (2025-06-19): Use at least two characters from each selected character class.
Storage of Profiles (2025-06-16): Settings and options for the password generation can now be saved and loaded as profiles in the Android app.
Android Version Alignment (2025-06-14): In the Android app, there are now the same password generation options available as in the current desktop version.
New Option (2025-06-13): Use each character only once / do not use characters for multiple times.
New Option (2025-06-11): Reduce the probability of two identical characters in a row.
Copy History to Clipboard (2025-06-10): Using the new "Clipboard" button in the "History" dialog (CTRL+H), you can copy your entire history to the clipboard with just one click.
Sort History (2025-06-09): With the new button "Sort" in the dialog "History" (CTRL+H), you can sort all passwords currently saved in your history alphabetically.
New Keyboard Shortcuts (2025-05-30): The dialogs "History", "Settings" and "Info" can now be closed using the ESC key.
Dialog for Deleting Settings (2025-04-15): The function "Delete Settings" now displays a dialog in which all startup settings, language settings and other settings files stored on the respective computer are listed and can this way be managed and deleted individually. Previously, when using this function, all files found were deleted directly.
Settings Reset now with Inquiry (2025-03-29): The function "Reset Settings" now only resets the settings after a warning message has been confirmed. Previously an immediate reset took place.
Open or Copy Links (2025-02-17): All linked websites can now also be opened via the context menu using the right mouse button (item "Open Link") or copied to the clipboard as a URL (item "Copy Link"). Left-clicking on a link will still open it in your default browser as before. Using the context menu and the new copy function, the URL can now also be used for other purposes.
New Language (2025-01-30): Svenska (Swedish) in the versions for Windows, Linux and macOS.
Windows System Integration Unicode Support (2024-12-02): Improved Unicode support for the Windows system integration, for example regarding user names and resulting user directories for storing settings that contain Unicode characters.
New Language (2024-08-22): Türkçe (Turkish) in the versions for Windows, Linux and macOS.
New Language (2024-08-11): Italiano (Italian) in the versions for Windows, Linux and macOS.
Support of Combined Characters (2024-07-27): Support of combined characters as custom letters in passwords (for example from the Unicode blocks Combining Diacritical Marks, Combining Diacritical Marks Extended or Combining Diacritical Marks Supplement).
Password Length (2024-02-24): Now, also with the Android app, passwords of any length can be created. Previously this was only possible with the desktop version.
New Language (2024-01-09): Български (Bulgarian) in the versions for Windows, Linux and macOS.
Window Positioning (2023-11-03): With the new option "Settings > System Integration > Always on Top" you can keep the window of the PasswordGenerator permanently in the foreground above all other program windows.

Position Storage (2023-06-09): Improved storage of the last window position in environments with more than one monitor.

Settings (2022-03-27): To reduce the size of the settings files, only those settings are stored, which deviate from the default settings.
New Option (2021-11-13): Exclude similar looking Characters like O, 0, 1, I and l.

New Keyboard Shortcuts (2021-07-27): CTRL+N (Create a new password), Shift+CTRL+C (Copy password into the clipboard), CTRL+H (Show History) and ESC (Quit program).

Language Detection (2021-05-03): Improvement of the automatic language detection of the system language when starting the program.
New Parameters (2021-04-27): With the new parameters l, c and a, the length of the password as well as the character classes used can be controlled in batch mode. An explanation of the new parameters and examples of their use can be found here.
Script Control (2021-04-19): With the parameter -cl, passwords can now also be created directly in the command line in batch mode without a graphical user interface (call via PasswordGenerator -cl).

Improved Help (2021-02-01): A readme file with instructions for running the program has been added to the ZIP archive for the macOS version.

New Option (2019-07-08): Automatically create a new password when clicking on the button "Clipboard".
Length and Character Classes (2019-07-07): The length of the created password and the character classes used for the password can be determined freely.
