Letter Frequencies of the language Icelandic
Below you can see a table showing the frequencies of letters, as they occur in the Icelandic language. This list was created with the character counter, which is integrated in the WordCreator. Basis of this list was a Icelandic text with 1,857,253 characters (323,562 words), 1,469,704 characters were used for the counting. The text consists of a good mix of different literary genres. Of course, if another text was used as a basis, the result would be slightly different.
The first list is sorted alphabetically according to the letters, the second list by the frequencies of the letters. Accordingly, the letters A, R and I are the most frequent letters in the Icelandic language.

The Icelandic Alphabet
Here you can see all letters that occur in the Icelandic alphabet. The headings of each column are showing all basic letters of the Latin alphabet in bold. In the first row of the table, there are the letters from the Latin alphabet, which are also used in Icelandic. Underneath, all in Icelandic occurring forms derived from the basic Latin letters are listed.

The Icelandic alphabet knows 32 letters. It contains of 22 basic letters of the Latin alphabet (all letters except C, Q, W and Z) and is supplemented by the 10 letters Á, Æ, Ð, É, Í, Ö, Ó, Þ, Ú and Ý. All vowels and the Y also appear as a variant with accent. In addition there are also the letters Æ / æ (like German EI), Ð / ð (voiced soft English TH), Þ / þ (from the rune alphabet, unvoiced hard English TH) and Ö.
