Settings
On this page you will find an overview of all options from the settings dialog of the FilelistCreator with an explanation of the respective function. You reach the dialog described here via the "Settings" menu. An explanation of the functions of other program parts of the FilelistCreator can be found in the function overview.
Text (Export as Text)
On this tab (Menu "Export Text"), you can find all settings that are used for an export as a text file (TXT). You can configure the format of the exported text list as well as determine the representation of the text list in the preview.
- Text > Export as Text > Padding Character: When exporting as text, the columns of the table are visually generated by bringing each text of all table cells of the same column to the same number of characters with a filler. If you look at the result using a font, which characters have a fixed width, it follows that the texts of each column stand exactly among each other and start respectively end in the same place. You can determine here which character is used as a filler respectively padding character. By default, a space is used for that, so that an empty space without text is created in the gaps. You can also use multiple characters here, for example " .". This alternately fills the empty space with a space and a point.
- Text > Export as Text > Horizontal Separator: If you have activated the option "Insert Horizontal Separator Lines" under "Structure" on the same tab, a line is inserted between the column headings and the table data as well as between the table data and the information below the table. You can determine of which characters this line should be formed here. By default, the sign of equality is used. You can also specify multiple characters here, for example " = ". With this, two spaces and a sign of equality would alternate until the entire line is filled.
- Text > Export as Text > Vertical Separator: The vertical separator is written between the columns vertically. If you leave this field empty, the content of the longest cell of a column borders directly to the beginning of the next column. By default, a space is used as a vertical separator, which means there is at least one space between two columns. You can also define several characters here to enlarge the distance between 2 columns accordingly.
- Text > Structure > Insert Horizontal Separator Lines: Activate this option to insert lines between the logical sections of the table when exporting as text. One line is inserted between the column headings and the table data, another line is inserted between the table data and the table footer (the line under the table in which, for example, information about the number of files or the total file size is stated). The line is made up of one or more characters that are repeated until the entire width of the table is filled. You can define which character is to be used for forming the line with the setting "Horizontal Separator" on the top of the same tab.
- Text > Preview > Font / Font Size: With these options you can determine with which font and in which font size the text list should be displayed in the preview.
- Text > Storage Format: Here you can determine which storage format should be used in the case of a storage in the text format / as a text file. You can determine the encoding and whether a byte order mark (BOM) should be used or not.
HTML (Export as HTML)
On this tab (Menu "Export HTML"), you can find all settings used for an export as a website (HTML). You can make settings for the formatting of the HTML document and determine how the HTML should be displayed in the preview.
- HTML > Export as HTML > Create raw HTML without any formattings: Activate this option if your table should consist of pure HTML without any formatting elements or CSS. In this case, the settings under "Font" and "Background" from the same tab are ignored. With this option, there is also no formatting written into the HTML document for the column alignment as well as for separating the table header or footer.
- HTML > Export as HTML > Create HTML with minimal formattings: Activate this option if your table should only be formatted minimally. A minimal formatting consists of bold written column headings, aligned table columns in accordance with your settings from the main window, a table width of 100 % and a footer written in italics. This option also ignores the other settings regarding the font and the background from the same tab.
- HTML > Export as HTML > Create formatted HTML using the following settings: Activate this option if you want to specify the font type, the font color, the font size, the line spacing and the background color of your table. You can use the settings on the same tab for this. In addition, the column alignments are taken from the main window, the column headings are written in bold font style and the footer under the table is written in italic letters.
- HTML > Font > Font / Font Size / Color: Here you can determine which font, font size and font color should be used for the HTML website. You can enter your desired unit for the font size into the field (for example "12px" or "1.1em".
- HTML > Font > Line Spacing: With this setting you can define a line spacing for the text of the HTML page. This value is used directly for the CSS property "line-height". So you can, for example, enter "1.5" in the field for "line-height:1.5" or "1.2em" for "line-height:1.2em".
- HTML > Background > Color: Here you can determine which background color should be used for the HTML website.
- HTML > Preview > Font / Font Size: With these options you can determine with which font and in which font size the list in HTML format should be displayed in the preview.
CSV (Export as CSV)
On this tab (Menu "Export CSV"), you can find all settings that are used for an export as a CSV table. You can configure the format of the CSV data as well as determine the presentation of the CSV list in the preview.
- CSV > Export as CSV > Field Separator (Separator between Fields): Here you can enter the character, which should be used as a separator between the individual fields of the CSV file. Typically, this character is either the comma (,) or the semicolon (;) in CSV files. The default value of this setting depends on your system settings. If, according to your system settings, the point is to be used as a decimal separator, the default value is the comma here. If, on the other hand, the decimal separator used on your system is the comma, the semicolon is used instead. To use a tab as a field separation character, you can use the placeholder %tab% in this field.
- CSV > Export as CSV > Field Delimiter (Quote Character for quoting fields): Here you can define the character that is used as an escape character to delimit the fields if, for example, a field has a field separation character in its content. Typically, the double quotation mark (") is used in this function in CSV files. The double quotation mark is also the default setting. If the option "Quote only if necessary" is deactivated, the field delimiter is used for each field, regardless of whether it is necessary to escape a field.
- CSV > Structure > Quote Fields only if necessary: If this option is activated, the field delimiting character is only used if this character is necessary for the syntax of the CSV file. For example, in the case that the character for the field separation itself occurs within a field and not in the function as a field separator. If this option is deactivated, the field delimiter is used for all fields, regardless of whether this is necessary for the syntax of the CSV data or not.
- CSV > Preview > Font / Font Size: With these options you can determine with which font and in which font size the CSV table should be displayed in the preview.
- CSV > Storage Format: Here you can determine which storage format should be used for storing in the CSV format. You can set the encoding and whether a byte order mark (BOM) should be written into the file or not.
Spreadsheet (Export as Spreadsheet)
On this tab (Menu "Spreadsheet Export"), you can find all settings that are used for an export as an Excel Spreadsheet (XLSX) or as an Open Document Spreadsheet (ODS).
- Spreadsheet > Column Width > Minimum Column Width in cm: If you have configured a dynamic column width (via a fixed column width of 0 or the option "Dynamically shrink columns with shorter content"), the column will not be arbitrarily reduced in width if the content is very short, but only up to the minimum width specified by this option. This can prevent columns from becoming so narrow that they appear "invisible".
- Spreadsheet > Column Width > Fixed (maximum) Column Width in cm: With this option you can specify a fixed or maximum column width in centimeters for your file list. This interpretation depends on the next option (shrink columns with shorter content). In order for your specified value to be interpreted as a fixed column width, the option "shrink columns with shorter content" has to be deactivated. This means that every column in your table receives the same width regardless of its content. Apart from that, if the next option is activated, the specification is interpreted as a "maximum column width" and only applies to columns whose content exceeds or corresponds to the specified width. Columns with shorter content, on the other hand, are dynamically adjusted to the width of their longest cell and thus receive the "optimal width" known from spreadsheet programs. For dynamic adjustment of all cells, you can enter a width value of "0". This means that every column in your table will receive a dynamic width with no length limit.
- Spreadsheet > Column Width > Dynamically shrink Columns with shorter Content than the fixed Column Width: If you have specified a fixed column width greater than 0 and you activate this option, the "fixed column width" becomes a "maximum column width". This means that any columns in the table that contain at least one cell with content that is longer than or equal to the specified column width will receive the specified column width, while all other columns with shorter content will be dynamically adjusted to a smaller width that is just wide enough for the longest element to fit in without wrapping. The maximum reduction is up to the value specified under "Minimum column width". If this option is not enabled, all columns of your file list will be set to the specified fixed column width regardless of their content.
- Spreadsheet > Column Width > Wrap Cells with longer Content than the Column Width: If you activate this option, cell content that exceeds the width of the column will be automatically wrapped so that the entire cell content fits into the relevant cell written under each other. If this option is not activated, long cell content will extend the end of the column without being wrapped and may therefore be covered by the content of the following column.
- Spreadsheet > Options > Freeze Column Headings: Activate this option to fix the column headers of the XLSX or ODS table. This means that the upper row with the column headings remains visible, regardless of how far you scroll down the table.
Image (Export as Image)
On this tab (Menu "Export Image"), you can find all settings that are used when exporting as an image. These settings apply for an export to the formats PNG, JPG and BMP.
- Image > Font > Font / Font Size / Color: Here you can determine which font, font size and font color should be used for the image.
- Image > Font > Line Spacing: With this setting you can define the spacing between the individual lines of your list. The value must be specified in pixels. Enter "0" here to write the lines directly under each other without additional spacing.
- Image > Background > Color: Here you can determine which background color should be used for the image.
- Image > Margins > Top / Left / Bottom / Right: With these settings you can determine which distance the text respectively the list should have to the borders of the image. All values must be specified in pixels. If you do not want to create margins, you can enter the value "0" into the corresponding fields.
- Image > Options > Use text export style for images: is written in the style of the text export on the image. This means that the result corresponds to the process as if you would save your current list via the text export as a text file and make a screenshot of it. Only the settings for the font size, the font color, the line spacing and the margins are taken from the image tab. Apart from that, a font with a fixed width is used to ensure the table structure made of characters that is typical for the text export. If this option is not activated, you can also use fonts with a variable width for your image export. You can see the difference between these two forms of the image export in the preview when you alternately activate and deactivate this option.
Print (Export as Print)
On this tab (Menu "Export Print") you can find the settings used for printing your file list. These settings apply if you select "Print" as an export format or use the "Print List" function (CTRL + P) to print out your file list via a physical or a PDF printer.
- Print > Font > Font / Font Size / Color: Here you can determine which font, font size and font color should be used for the print.
- Print > Font > Line Spacing: With this setting you can define the spacing between the individual lines of your list for the print. The value must be specified in centimeters and can also have decimal places. Enter "0.0" here to print the individual lines directly under each other without additional spacing.
- Print > Page Margins > Top / Left / Bottom / Right: With these settings you can determine which distance the text respectively the list should have to the sides when printing. All values must be specified in centimeters and you can use decimal places.
- Print > Options > Use text export style for printing: When this option is activated, your table is printed in the style of the text export. This means that the print result corresponds to the process as if you would save your current list via the text export as a text file and print out this text file. Only the settings for the font size, the font color, the line spacing and the page margins are taken from the print tab. Apart from that, a font with a fixed width is used to ensure the table structure made of characters that is typical for the text export. If this option is not activated, you can also use fonts with a variable width for your printout. You can see the difference between these two forms of printing your list in the preview when you alternately activate and deactivate this option.
